About Scott Walters
Scott is a 5th grade teacher at Gustine I.S.D. in Comanche County, Texas. He is the author of Woman Too Young of Panther Cave, a historical fiction novel about the Archaic Indians of the Lower Pecos for young adult readers. Scott is also the author of the fourth grade material (issues 1-14) for Social Studies Weekly, published by American Legacy Publishing Company.
Scott’s interest in the Archaic Indians of the Lower Pecos and other indigenous American cultures includes more than writing. Each year, Scott and his wife, Cassie, take his students on a two-day field trip to the Lower Pecos to see the key sites in the novel, view their paintings, and experience firsthand the setting in which these ancient Texans lived. Based on their studies, his students have prepared a Distance Learning Program that has been presented to students in the United States and Wales. He has also conducted workshops and tours for Region 14 teachers (ESC 14 in Abilene) and workshops at the Texas Regional Collaboratives (TRC) annual meeting and the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching's (CAST) annual statewide meeting.
