ARCHAIC  INDIAN  DAILY  LIFE

Are you tough enough to do their jobs?

When you learn that Archaic Indian children did not have to go to school, you may be ready to hop aboard a time machine and escape the prison you call school.  Wait just a minute.  Archaic kids may not have had school, but they did have lessons to learn and lots of them.  We'll begin with the boys by examining what they had to learn from their parents, relatives, and friends.

As you can see, boys and girls learn many of the same lessons.

Did children in Archaic Indian schools get report cards?

Archaic Indian children of the Lower Pecos did not get report cards like the ones you get each year.  They could fail, however.  Did they get an ‘F’?  No.  Did they have to repeat a grade?  They did have to repeat their lessons, but there were no grades to repeat.

Remember, if these children did not learn their lessons, they could not meet their daily needs.  When that happened, they died.  Think about it.  If you knew you were going to starve, be attacked by wild animals, or eat a poisonous plant , you’d make sure you learned your lessons!

Meeting Their Basic Needs

HUNTERS & GATHERERS

The Archaic Indians of the Lower Pecos are called hunters and gatherers, because that is how they got what they needed.  There were no stores where they could buy things.  They did trade with other groups of people, but most of what they needed was found in the world around them.

Look at the world around you.  That world was their grocery store, hardware store, building supply center, pharmacy, clothing store, and entertainment center.
