Red Monochrome Style
Lizard Man Photograph by Scott Walters
The image to the right in the photograph is called Lizard Man.  This painting was in a small rock shelter high above the Pecos River.  Taking a good picture of this put the author in a difficult position on a steep slope.  Imagine how difficult it was for the Archaic Indian who painted this image!

Historic Style
Row of Dancers Photograph by Scott Walters
This row of dancers was painted on the rock shelter wall at Meyer's Springs.  This is another tour available through the Rock Art Foundation.  It also includes a visit to the ruins of an outpost of Fort Clark.

Horse and Rider Photograph by Scott Walters

The Archaic Indians of the Lower Pecos did not know about horses.  Horses in this painting tell the viewer that this image was painted after the Archaic Period.
